Context makes the difference

I got two flyers in the mail this afternoon. Both of them had photos of youthful faces with big eyes gazing soulfully into the camera, over impossibly thin limbs, sometimes bared to the shoulders or almost entirely. The photos are captioned with numbers and prices, and although the thicker flyer is printed in full color on glossy paper, it’s the one in matte black and white, just three pages long, that keeps drawing my eye. Why? Because one of these was a Victoria’s Secret catalog and the other was an update from Doctors Without Borders about how my donation has been spent and their plans for future work. I think I’ll pass on the latest super bra.
